Building a School in Uganda

Partnership with Building Tomorrow

PACÉ has partnered with Building Tomorrow, a national non-profit organization, to build a primary school in sub-Saharan Africa.

The plan is simple. BT works with students to raise money to build schools in sub-Saharan Africa. BT currently has over 15 college chapters and PACÉ became the official Virginia Tech chapter in 2008.

BT currently works in Uganda where they identify areas where there are many vulnerable children with little or no access to a primary school. In these areas, BT purchases a plot of land and, with the help of the local community, constructs a ten-room school. Upon completion of the school, the building is leased to the local government to manage day-to-day operations under an agreement with BT.

Under the BT model, our Virginia Tech chapter will raise the $45,000 needed to build a school and the local communities contribute 25,000 hours of labor to construct the school. Committees of residents and local leaders are established to oversee the various aspects of project completion and implementation.

Today, Building Tomorrow has classroom space for over 1,000 children. We hope to help them increase that number by funding and building our very own school, sponsored by PACÉ's Virginia Tech chapter. Virginia Tech students are encouraged to contribute to the design and construction of the school. Upon completion, a Virginia Tech sign will be posted in front of the school and children attending the school will wear orange and maroon uniforms. Visit PACÉ's site at Building Tomorrow to donate or get involved. All donations to Building Tomorrow are tax deductible.
