Bike to Uganda 2009

WHAT:

Bike to Uganda fundraiser for schools!

WHEN:

Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 3rd
8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

WHO:

Students, Faculty, Staff, and Blacksburg Community!

WHY:

PACE' has teamed up with Building Tomorrow to bike the distance of 7,468 miles from Blacksburg to Uganda on stationary bikes. The bikes will be set up in front of the GLC on the Virginia Tech campus for five days, 8 hours a day. By accomplishing our goal of $45,000, we will help build a school and help educate children in Uganda. FEES:

Free! We encourage bikers to take the $2 Challenge and donate $2/mile!

We need volunteers! Volunteer opportunities are available for the following positions:

SPONSOR RECRUITERS
We need volunteers to send out letters and personally contact local and national companies in regards to sponsoring our event. A donor letter is available here and can be used to formally ask prospective sponsors for their participation. A list of companies will be up soon to choose from. Download Donor Letter now.

DOOR-TO-DOOR LETTER CAMPAIGN
PACE' has designated March 22 - March 24th DtD Letter Campaign Days! Pick a day and time that is good for you and help us spread the word about Bike to Uganda! Fly solo or pick a pal to walk from house to house and ask for donations and encourage people to come bike! Take plenty of BTU fliers (attached) to pass out to people who are interested.

BIKE TO UGANDA - BIKE STATION
BTU will need volunteers to run the bike stand from 8am-8pm Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 3rd. Volunteers are needed to stand at the bike station in front of the Graduate Life Center and answer questions about Bike to Uganda, PACE', and Building Tomorrow. Volunteers may also be responsible for assisting bikers with equipment, selling merchandise, and working with entertainment personnel. Biking is allowed during shifts if more than one volunteer is currently working at the bike station. So pick a partner and come volunteer for a few hours and help make a difference! BIKE TO UGANDA - DRILLFIELD STATION
Volunteers are needed to help recruit bikers and donors on the drill field during the week of Bike to Uganda. Volunteer shifts are available from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM (during lunch) Monday, March 30th - Friday, Apr 3rd. Volunteers may be responsible for passing out fliers, asking for donations, selling baked goods, recruiting bikers, and answering questions about BTU, PACE', or Building Tomorrow. Our responsibility is not to do everything, but to simply do something. Change does not happen overnight, but if we all take the time to do what we can - big or small - change WILL happen. All donations will go to the Virginia Tech Chapter of Building Tomorrow to support Bike to Uganda. We encourage groups to form teams and set a goal!
